On Saturday, June 17, BLC Studios was hired to provide live video coverage of the North Star Grand Prix, a professional cycling event held in North Mankato. This was a new event for the studio, and it was quite the undertaking. Planning began in April as the studio collaborated with the city and bike race officials. Safety was especially important for this event coverage, which brought a motorcycle into the race!

While the cyclists were on the course, attendees could view the race on several monitors in a VIP tent providing a live video feed. Benjamin Weber provided coverage from the back of the motorcycle where he sat for over six hours following the race leaders. The event posed the challenge of live wireless camera feeds, including a drone flying down the finish line. Over 30 GBs of data were used to stream the lead camera, which allowed for fans to see the peloton up front while enjoying the food and drink available in the VIP tent.

“You made our event a thousand times better. This blew away our expectations.”
– Mayor of North Mankato, Dr. Mark Dehen

Many local attendees and out of town guests shared similar remarks about the coverage. Overall, it was a high-energy event for the studio and a fun change of pace before hockey season comes back into focus. Most importantly, we’re glad Benjamin Weber made it out okay…and near the front of the pack!
