We are very excited to announce that the Speechless Film Festival is now accepting entries for our second annual festival occurring in Mankato on March 20-22, 2014. Speechless is an international film festival, presented by Bethany, for students and professionals. Our festival is unique in that it is inspired by the universal art of visual (but not silent) storytelling. While not all of our films are completely speechless, we seek to honor filmmakers who use visual means to communicate. We believe this is a wonderful way for us to share stories across cultures! Last year’s festival was a very exciting inaugural event complete with films from all over the world, speakers, custom sculpted trophies, local musical talent, and more. We’re looking to build on this excitement and we hope to see you enter your films and join us for the event!
In 2014, we have opened the following categories: narrative (student), narrative (professional), animation/experimental/other (student), animation/experimental/other (professional), and “Made in Minnesota” (combined student and professional). An award of $500 will be given for best of show in the student and Minnesota categories and an award of $1000 will be given for best of show in the professional categories. We are also continuing to give high school students an opportunity to share their media creations with the community in their own category.
The deadline for submission is January 31, 2014. To read more about this event, visit the Speechless Film Festival website. Also, check out our flickr photo gallery of last year’s event!
